Question

How do I request an article through Interlibrary Loan?

Answer

Handout for Requesting Article through Interlibrary Loan

There will be times that you find a resource that is not available in our library, but you would like to obtain the article to use. You can request items through Interlibrary Loan or ILL. In order to request items through ILL, you first have to register. If you have not registered, please view the FAQ on how to register for Interlibrary Loan first.

Steps to order an article through Interlibrary Loan.

Using OneSearch to search for an article:

  • OneSearch can be found on the library's homepage at www.frostburg.edu/library
    • If you need assistance using OneSearch, please contact a Research Librarian.
  •  Once you search on your topic and your results screen will come up.
  • Articles may have PDF full text or HTML full text listed if they are available full text in OneSearch.
  • If it only has a button that says FINDIT, this means is it's not available in OneSearch.
  • What you have to do is click on the FINDIT button to see if it is available in any of the other databases.
  • After you click on the FINDIT Button and it says it is not available in any of the other databases that the library has, then you need to request it from Interlibrary Loan.
  • So what you would do is click on the link that says REQUEST IT FROM Interlibrary Loan
  • The screen will pop up asking you to login into ILLiad or Interlibrary Loan
  • It will request your barcode and last name.
    • Your FSU barcode is my 14-digit number that is found on my FSU ID. It usually starts with 2206.
  • Once you enter your login information, select the button that says LOGON TO ILLIAD.
  • What comes up is the article requests screen.
  • Many of the fields will already filled out with the title, the volume, the issue, the year, the beginning of the page numbers.
    • You will have to put in the ending page number for any article but it has all the other information in there.
    • If it does not have all the information in there, you want to make sure that the item, the fields with the asterisks, the red asterisks, are the ones that are filled out.
  • Once I am done, I go ahead and select SUBMIT REQUEST.

If the article is not available in OneSearch:

  • Log into ILLiad (the interlibrary loan platform): https://usmai.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/mfs/logon.html
  • Once you are logged in, under the “New Request” menu, select the type of source you are requesting and fill out the form. Not sure what to put in the form? Email a librarian at libref@frostburg.edu, and we’ll be happy to help you!
  • Click, "Submit Request"

Our library uses RAPIDILL, so you should normally receive the item within 24 hours. Once the article is available, you'll receive an email that provides a link to log in to ILL.

If you need further assistance, please contact the Interlibrary Loan office at ILL@frostburg.edu or a Research Librarian at LibRef@frostburg.edu
