Question

How do I access Subject specific databases?

Answer

Handout Access Subject Specific Databases

The Ort Library offers access to over 90 databases. There will be times when you want to search a specific database rather than OneSearch. To access the databases, you can utilize the A-Z listing of the databases.

To access the A-Z list of databases:

  • Go to the library’s home page: https://www.frostburg.edu/library/
  • Select the link A-Z Databases, which can be found under the OneSearch Search Box
  • This will bring you to the List of A-Z Databases.
  • To access a specific database, simply click the first letter of the database you want to access.
    • It will then bring you to a list of databases that start with the letter you selected.
    • Click the title of the database you want to search/access.
  • You can also select a specific subject and see which databases are available under that subject.
    • To select a specific subject, select drop down at the top of the screen that says All Subjects and pick the subject you want.
    • For example, if Computer Science was selected, the list of databases for the subject of Computer Science would be shown.

If you are on-campus, the database will simply open up for you and you can begin searching it.

If you are off-campus, once you select a database, you will then be prompted to enter your library ID (starts with 2206 – found on your FSU ID) and your last name. Your barcode is the 14-digit number on your FSU ID. If you do not have an ID, please see the Handout Finding Your 14 Digit Barcode which will show you how to find the barcode in PAWS. Once you have entered your information, the database will launch, and you can access the database just as if you were on-campus.
